A brief history of the church (Angers Baptist Center):

In the mid-nineties veteran missionaries Gene and Peggy Mumford and deputation missionaries Dave and Cyndie Mumford had a desire to plant a Baptist church somewhere in western France. The need for Bible-centered churches seemed greater there than in many other parts of the country. Survey trips were taken in 1994 and 1995.
Major factors helping us narrow in on Angers were the size of the town, the fact that there were relatively few solid churches in the area, and the presence of an excellent language school. After time, thought and prayer we decided to move to the Angers area.
In 1996 the Mumfords Sr. came from the other side of France to settle just north of Angers. They scoped out the area and began meeting people. A number of Bible calendar offers were passed out by Gene Mumford. This enabled him to meet a variety of contacts.
In January 1998, the Mumfords, Jr. (Dave and Cyndie and family) arrived.
After Mumfords Sr. had to return on furlough, meetings were held in Dave and Cyndie’s apartment. Through contacts Cyndie made in language school, there were 6 students for an initial public meeting in February ‘98. Things began to come together fast when a Christian family (the René Pann family) from Paris made plans to move to Angers. They along with the 2 Mumford families provided the initial core of the church.
A suitable meeting room was found in May, cleaned up and prepared for the first service in June. From there on various activities were planned, people were invited and the church was launched!
