About the city of Angers
| Angers has about 250,000 people (suburbs included), making it the 17th largest city in France according to the recent census. Located in the historic Loire valley, Angers has had an eventful history. The large castle/fortress dating back to the 13th century is perhaps the most remarkable symbol of the city (below right). |
| Today Angers has set its eyes on the future, with many modern buildings and new construction everywhere, especially downtown. Large corporations (especially in the technological sector) have plants in and around Angers. There are also over 20,000 university students. | ![]() |
| The climate in the Angers area is mild, never very cold in the winter, with hardly any snow. The summer temperatures average around 70 to 80 degrees. Only 75 minutes from the ocean, there are frequent rainshowers. The area is known for its fruits and vegetables, especially apples and pears. Vineyards make up much of the area south of the city. |

The people of Angers have traditionally been very Catholic, but this is changing. For a variety of reasons, many people, as in most of France, do not believe in much of anything and have little interest in God and the Bible. The arrival on the scene in France of various cults has contributed to making folks even more leery. However, by and large, there is still a strong Roman Catholic sentiment and influence in the Angers area. |
